Rep. Tim Twardzik of Schuylkill County has announced state funding for two local schools to upgrade their cafeterias with new food service equipment. Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29’s Center for Exceptional Children received $8,088 for a pass-through heated cabinet. Meanwhile, Schuylkill Technology Center’s Schuylkill County South Campus was awarded $62,484 to install a walk-in cooler/freezer.

The funding is aimed at enhancing school nutrition programs across the state. Twardzik emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating, “Ensuring our schools have the necessary tools to provide healthy meals is essential for student success. These grants will help improve food service operations and enhance the quality of meals for students in Schuylkill County.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides the funding for these grants. Eligible schools participating in the National School Lunch Program use the funds to purchase or upgrade necessary kitchen equipment, such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, to ensure safe and efficient food service operations.
