Fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in Schuylkill and Northumberland counties have received significant state funding to enhance their operations. Rep. Joanne Stehr announced that Schuylkill County has been awarded over $1.6 million, while Northumberland County will receive $659,491.
“These grants provide crucial support to the dedicated first responders who protect our communities,” said Stehr. “Our firefighters and EMS personnel work around the clock to ensure our safety, and they deserve the finest equipment and training to carry out their life-saving work.”
The funds were allocated through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program established by the General Assembly. The grant money can be used for upgrading facilities, purchasing new equipment, reducing debt, training members, recruiting, retaining first responders, among other needs.
A detailed list of recipients from both counties was provided in the announcement. In Northumberland County, beneficiaries include Coal Township Rescue Squad Inc with a grant of $12,018.46 for fire services and Elysburg Fire Co 1 receiving $14,385.41 for fire services and an additional $10,000 for EMS.
In Schuylkill County, notable recipients are American Hose Company in Ashland with a grant of $12,879.17 for fire services and Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad Inc in Barnesville receiving $15,000 for EMS.
Representative JoAnne Stehr emphasized the importance of this funding as it helps equip first responders with necessary tools to serve their communities effectively.
