Rep. JoAnne Stehr of the 107th District in Pennsylvania expressed her disapproval following her decision to vote against the House Democrat 2023-24 state budget. In a statement, she criticized Gov. Josh Shapiro and House Democrats for what she termed as fiscally irresponsible actions.

Stehr stated, "I am extremely disappointed by the actions of Gov. Josh Shapiro and House Democrats. After fully backing his support for school choice to the General Assembly, the governor pledged to veto the $100 million in funding for Lifeline Scholarships to appease House Democrat leadership." She further explained that this move affects students from K-12 attending schools within the lowest performing 15% according to statewide standards.

The proposed PA Award for Student Success (PASS) scholarship program aimed at providing these students with better educational opportunities will not proceed due to this veto, Stehr noted. She emphasized that "a budget has been passed that will blow through our Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars."

Stehr described the budget as representing "a radical spending increase of 6% from last year’s budget." Despite her disappointment, she reaffirmed her commitment to protecting taxpayers, reducing government spending, fostering economic growth, and supporting agriculture communities and small businesses.
