Rep. Tim Twardzik of Schuylkill has announced the allocation of $768,180 in grant funding to support fire companies and emergency medical services (EMS) within the 123rd District. This funding aims to enhance the capabilities of first responders by providing necessary resources for their operations.
“As an advocate for the safety and well-being of our communities, I am thrilled to hear about the substantial grant funding awarded to benefit our fire and EMS departments,” said Twardzik. “This funding will significantly bolster our first responders’ capabilities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue performing their life-saving services.”
The grants have been distributed among various fire companies across Schuylkill County, including those in Ashland, Cumbola, Cressona, Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville, Gordon, Lavelle, Llewellyn, MarLin, Middleport, Minersville, Mahanoy Plane, Port Carbon, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, Saint Clair, Shenandoah Heights Fire Company No. 1 William Penn Fire Company No. 1 Seltzer Summit Station New Philadelphia.
In addition to fire companies receiving funds are several EMS organizations such as Washington Fire Company Community Ambulance in Ashland and Pottsville Area Emergency Medical Service Inc.
“Our local fire and EMS teams are always in need of volunteers," added Twardzik. "I encourage anyone interested to reach out to their local firehouse or my district office to learn more about how they can get involved and make a difference."
The funding is part of the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program designed by the Legislature and managed by PEMA along with OSFC. The program supports projects like facility construction or renovation equipment purchase repair training debt reduction.
