State Representative Doyle Heffley, a Republican from Carbon County, has been appointed as the Republican chairman of the House Human Services Committee for the 2024-25 legislative session. This marks his second consecutive term in this role.

“It is a great privilege to be re-appointed as the Republican Chairman of the Human Services Committee,” Heffley stated. He highlighted his experience on the committee and its impact, noting efforts such as leading an opioid task force and addressing issues related to overprescribing. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that vulnerable citizens receive necessary care and support.

Heffley also stressed fiscal responsibility, saying, “I remain committed to making certain taxpayer dollars are used responsibly, and I will continue to root out any waste or fraud that threaten the integrity of our programs.” He expressed eagerness to collaborate across party lines while maintaining core values when conflicts arise.

The House Human Services Committee oversees various issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. It plays a significant role in shaping legislation concerning mental health, drug crises, and preventing heroin and opioid overdoses. The committee plans to continue hearings on human services delivery across Pennsylvania, focusing on challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and those needing mental health or substance abuse treatment.
