FOIA Request Sent to Carbon County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Carbon County Election Department in Pennsylvania on October 30, 2024. The request was made by us at Coal Region News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically sought records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., pertaining to pre-election test reports for election voting machines. We requested these documents preferably in electronic format and specifically in PDF format.

The fields we requested in the report include the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).

As a media organization, we believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

We continue to wait for a response from the Carbon County Election Department regarding this request.
