A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Schuylkill County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request, made by us at Coal Region News, seeks access to pre-election voting machine test reports.
The information sought includes the date of testing, the manufacturer of the machines, their model numbers, and their status - whether they passed or failed. We have requested these records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., and preferably in electronic format.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to such public records is essential for our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional. We will continue to strive for transparency and accountability in all aspects of local government affairs.
We await a response from the Schuylkill County Election Department regarding our request.
