Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) and Sen. David Argall (R-Carbon/Luzerne/Schuylkill) will host a Hard-to-Read License Plate Replacement event on Tuesday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palmerton Public Works Building, located at 412 Third St. Registration is required for the event, and interested residents can register by calling 610-377-6363.
“License plates typically wear out over time from weather and age,” said Heffley. “While PennDOT offers free replacements for these worn-out plates, the process can be burdensome. This event is all about simplifying the process for vehicle owners.”
If a license plate is determined to be illegible during the event, paperwork will be completed for free, and a new standard replacement plate should arrive within a few weeks at the vehicle owner’s home address.
According to PennDOT guidelines, a registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity.
