Rep. Doyle Heffley and Sen. David Argall have expressed optimism over the progress of the Hemlock Drive Bridge project in Carbon County. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is set to commence repairs on the local bridge later this spring, bringing relief to residents impacted by its closure.
Heffley acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to this development, stating, “For all parties involved, it was extremely important to create a plan that would limit the impact on the residents and businesses in the community.” He emphasized the importance of the timely repairs that will bridge the gap until the scheduled replacement in 2028.
Sen. Argall also commended the teamwork involved in addressing the bridge closure, noting, “I’m thankful we were able to work quickly to address this issue, which would have put undue strain on nearby roads and caused delays for local first responders.”
The closure of the Hemlock Drive Bridge, built in 1925, had initially posed challenges for daily commuters until the decision was made to expedite the repair process. PennDOT is awaiting permit approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to proceed with the construction, which is estimated to take two to three weeks.
Upon completion, the one-lane bridge will reopen, easing the burden on local drivers in Lehighton. Residents seeking further information on the Hemlock Drive Bridge project are encouraged to contact Heffley’s district offices for updates.
The proactive approach taken by all parties involved underscores a commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges promptly and efficiently, ensuring the safety and convenience of the community.
