HARRISBURG – Projects to improve roads, bridges, and downtowns across Schuylkill County were awarded state grants totaling more than $1 million from the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF), according to Rep. JoAnne Stehr (R-Northumberland/Schuylkill).

Stehr emphasized the importance of infrastructure maintenance, stating, "It is critical to maintain our roads, sidewalks, and bridges because they serve as the main lifelines of our community." She also expressed her satisfaction with the funding allocation, saying, "I am pleased that this grant funding will be allocated towards enhancing our local transportation systems, recognizing the vital role they play in our community’s prosperity and connectivity."

Projects that received grants include a $425,858 allocation for Barry Township to replace the bridge on Hill Road over Hansyost Creek, $500,000 for traffic improvements along Locust Gap Highway in Mt. Carmel Borough, Northumberland County, and $100,000 for Frailey Township to replace the Clark Street Bridge over Good Spring Creek in Schuylkill County.

The funding for these projects is being delivered through the DCED Multimodal Transportation Fund grant program, which aims to provide financial support for projects that encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for commonwealth residents.

The grants were awarded as part of the efforts of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to administer the state's economic stimulus packages.

Rep. JoAnne Stehr represents the 107th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and continues to work towards enhancing local transportation infrastructure for the benefit of the community.
