Flexible Instructional Days
● A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) is a program available to public school entities to be used as an alternate approach to delivering instruction if a
circumstance arises that prevents instruction in a customary manner.
● While public school entities are expected to build make-up days into their local school calendars, FID programs can support the public school entities in cases when circumstances prevent the delivery of instruction in its customary manner or location for any of the following reasons: an epidemic, a hazardous weather condition, a law enforcement emergency, the inoperability of school buses or other equipment necessary to the public school entity's operation, damage to a school building, or a temporary circumstance rendering any portion of a school building unfit or unsafe for use.
● NPSD has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for five flexible instructional days. The North Pocono School District will utilize its FIDs the first five times that district schools are forced to close. The school closure will be identified as a Flexible Instructional Day.
● On Flexible Instructional Days lessons will be posted to student Google Classrooms by 9 A.M. In addition, teachers will be available to assist and/or respond to student/parent emails between the hours of 10:00-11:00 A.M. and 1:00-2:00 P.M.
● Flexible Instructional Days will be considered a day of school and will not impact the school calendar. If additional school closures are necessary beyond the FIDs, schools will close and these days will not contain instruction. Furthermore, the days will be considered make-up days in the school calendar.
