Harrisburg, PA – The Schuylkill Hope Center has been awarded a state grant of $689,070 from the Violence Intervention and Prevention program to support their efforts in protecting victims of domestic abuse from gun violence, as announced by Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) on April 3, 2024.

In a statement, Rep. Tim Twardzik praised the Schuylkill Hope Center, saying, "Amidst the harrowing statistics of domestic violence, the Schuylkill Hope Center stands as a beacon of hope, dedicated to shielding victims from the deadly convergence of abuse and firearms." He also highlighted the grant's significance in strengthening the center's initiatives and emphasizing a vital commitment to community safety.

Furthermore, Sen. Argall commended the Schuylkill Hope Center's longstanding dedication, stating, “This highly competitive grant funding is well-deserved and will aid them with their important work for the Schuylkill County community.”

The funding, awarded through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s School Safety and Security Committee, will enable the Schuylkill Hope Center to focus on reducing gun violence incidents related to domestic abuse. The center has been instrumental in providing free and confidential counseling to over 1,300 victims of domestic abuse and offering emergency and long-term housing during the 2022-23 fiscal year in Schuylkill County.

Sen. Argall's involvement in securing the funding is noteworthy, as he was one of the prime sponsors of the legislation that established the program. This initiative stemmed from his efforts, including hosting ten public roundtables across the state to address safe and secure learning environments for students and educators.

For individuals facing threats from a loved one, the Schuylkill Hope Center offers a 24/7 hotline at 570-622-6220 or 800-282-0634. Alternatively, individuals can text HOPELINE to 20121 to reach an agency representative.

The awarded grant underscores the ongoing commitment of the Schuylkill Hope Center, supported by the dedicated efforts of Rep. Tim Twardzik and Sen. Argall, in safeguarding and empowering victims of domestic abuse in the Schuylkill County community.
