A public hearing focused on the relationship between higher education and workforce development is scheduled for September 2 at Lycoming College’s Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall in Williamsport. The Senate Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), will lead the session following an invitation from Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23).
The hearing aims to highlight how local institutions such as Lycoming College and Penn College work to ensure that students are prepared for careers upon graduation. “There is no better place to examine the connection between higher education and workforce development than Lycoming County, where institutions like Penn College and Lycoming College are preparing students to meet employer needs and drive Pennsylvania’s economic competitiveness,” said Yaw. “A strong and skilled workforce is the foundation of our future, and I appreciate Sen. Argall and the committee for taking on this issue.”
Argall emphasized the importance of educational institutions in job preparation. “Preparing students for the workforce is one of the most important responsibilities of our colleges and universities,” said Argall. “I look forward to learning more about how our institutions of higher education are building pipelines to connect their students with the jobs of tomorrow.”
Panelists at the hearing will include leaders from higher education, students, as well as business and labor union representatives. The event will be available via livestream on the committee’s website.
