State Rep. Doyle Heffley | Pennsylvania 122nd Legislative District
In a recent statement, Representative Doyle Heffley expressed his concerns regarding the low number of session days for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2024. Heffley questioned Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton and her Democratic colleagues, particularly due to the fact that this Legislative Session has set a new record for the least time spent on the House floor dedicated to working for constituents.
Heffley specifically addressed Speaker McClinton's explanation for the three-month hiatus until mid-March, citing an urgent need to address a leaky roof. Heffley found this rationale questionable, stating, "The water leak was discovered almost a year ago, and it raises the question of why this supposedly critical issue wasn't addressed efficiently on days when the House was not in session."
The representative went on to speculate that the real reason behind the adjournment was to shift the balance of power in the House. Heffley suggested that the proposed delay until March conveniently aligns with the earliest possible time for a special election to occur, potentially resulting in a 101-101 split. He viewed this as a calculated plan and called for Speaker McClinton to be honest with the people of Pennsylvania.
Heffley stressed the need to refocus efforts on legislative responsibilities and emphasized that there is plenty of work to be done in Harrisburg. He expressed his belief that the residents of Pennsylvania can withstand a little water and work for them, which is exactly what they were elected to do.
With the statement, Representative Doyle Heffley urges the House Democrats to prioritize their legislative duties and put an end to excuses.
