Harrisburg, PA - The Schuylkill Conservation District has received a grant of $277,657 as part of the 2024 Countywide Action Plan (CAP) implementation grants, announced Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill). The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded a total of $19.3 million in grants to county teams across Pennsylvania's Chesapeake Bay Watershed to support efforts in reducing nutrient and sediment pollution.

"I look forward to seeing the progress that will be achieved by this year's grant recipients. Their efforts not only benefit our local communities but also make a positive impact on the entire Commonwealth and beyond," said Twardzik.

The 2024 CAP Implementation Grant round received applications for 226 projects, which are expected to be completed within the next 12 to 18 months. These projects aim to reduce over 170,000 pounds/year of nitrogen, 122,000 pounds/year of phosphorus, and 36.3 million pounds/year of sediment.

The grants awarded to the Schuylkill Conservation District will contribute to the restoration of the health of local streams, rivers, and lakes. The district will utilize the funds to implement measures that will improve water quality and protect the environment.

This investment in conservation efforts is crucial for the preservation and sustainability of Pennsylvania's natural resources. The grants will support ongoing initiatives to reduce pollution and promote the well-being of aquatic ecosystems.

The Schuylkill Conservation District expressed their gratitude for the grant and their commitment to using the funds effectively. According to a representative from the district, "We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will enable us to continue our vital work in safeguarding the natural resources of our community. We will ensure that these funds are used efficiently and effectively to achieve our conservation goals."

The grants awarded to the Schuylkill Conservation District highlight the importance of collaboration between government agencies and local communities in addressing environmental challenges. By working together, we can make significant strides in protecting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and preserving the natural beauty of Pennsylvania.

The 2024 CAP Implementation Grants are a testament to the dedication and hard work of individuals and organizations committed to environmental stewardship. Through their efforts, Pennsylvania's streams, rivers, and lakes will be restored to their full ecological potential, benefiting both present and future generations.
