The Pocono Mountain East Jr High and High School Science Olympiad teams competed in the regional competition at Penn State Wilkes Barre

The Pocono Mountain East Jr High and High School Science Olympiad teams competed in the regional competition at Penn State Wilkes Barre.  22 High school and 18 Jr. High schools from the northeast part of the state showed up to compete, and try to earn a spot in the state tournament.  Medals were awarded for the top 4 places in each event.  The following students medaled in the competition

Division B (Jr. High)

Bio-Process Lab - 1st place - 8th grader Julian Rivera and 7th grader Jasper Shelton

Disease Detectives - 3rd place - Freshman Nelson Figuroa and 8th grader Samuel Oh

Forestry - 3rd place - Freshman Jake Merritt and 8th grader Julian Rivera

Dynamic Planet - 4th place - 8th grader Samuel Oh and 7th grader Owen Gower

Solar System - 2nd place - 8th grader Valerie Cooper and 7th grader Julian Rivera

Storm the Castle - 4th place - 8th grader Valerie Cooper 

Flight - 4th place 7th graders Alissa Gilliland and Owen Gower

Codebusters - 4th place - 7th graders Connor Hartman, Alissa Gilliland and Jasper Shelton

Write it Do it - 4th place - 7th graders Jasper Shelton and Miriam Thomas 

Division C (High School)

Cell Biology - 2nd place - Sophomores Emily Forlizzi and Lila Shelton

Forestry - 4th place - Seniors Chris Fisher and Suki Shephard

Dynamic Planet - 2nd place - Seniors Lauren Waldstein and Alexandra Bock

Remote Sensing - 4th place - Senior Chris Fisher and Sophomore Emily Forlizzi 

Detector Building - 4th place - Sophomore Connor Straub and Freshman Mahi Patel

Codebusters - 4th place - Sophomores Lila Shelton and Connor Straub, and Freshman Mahi Patel

Fermi Question - 3rd place - Seniors Lauren Waldstein and Edward Lockie

Of the 23 events, the team scored top 10 in 19 of them!

The Junior Hiigh team finished 6th overall, and the High School team finished 5th overall.  This has earned them a spot in the state tournament, to be held in Penn State Altoona on April 22nd.
