On Tuesday, November 8th, students in Miss Lentowski's class learned about the importance of the democratic process and Election Day. The students learned about registering to vote, learning the candidates to make an informed vote, and tallying up ballots. The students learned about smaller, local elections and why they are important. They completed an activity about why their vote is important for our community, schools, families and friends. They received voter registration cards and used them as they participated in a mock election, where they each cast their vote for the candidate they wanted to be the best ice cream flavor. After a day of voting, the ballots were counted and the winner was Vanilla ice cream in an 11 to 8 vote! The students had a post election party and celebrated with a bowl of the winning candidate. Students enjoyed learning about the voting process and look forward to exercising their right to vote when they are 18 years old!
