Two projects in Northumberland County will receive a combined $800,000 from Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, according to an announcement by Rep. Joanne Stehr (R-Northumberland/Schuylkill). The funding is intended to improve local roadways, pedestrian safety, and support economic development.
The City of Shamokin has been allocated $250,000 for the Independence Street Makeover. This project focuses on roadway and pedestrian safety improvements along East Independence Street between Eighth and Ninth streets.
Route 901 Development LLC will receive $550,000 for upgrades to Quarry Road and rail siding access in Coal Township. These improvements are aimed at supporting a transload facility.
“These projects will improve safety, strengthen local infrastructure and support economic growth in our communities,” said Stehr. “Investing in transportation improvements helps revitalize neighborhoods, enhances pedestrian safety and ensures our roads can support future development.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides financial support for economic development by investing in various transportation-related projects such as roadways, pedestrian pathways, bicycle routes, transit systems, and stormwater management. The program is designed to help communities across Pennsylvania maintain safe and reliable multimodal transportation networks.
