Rep. JoAnne Stehr and Sen. Dave Argall announced that the Pine Grove Joint Treatment Authority has received a low-interest loan exceeding $1.6 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). The funding will be used to upgrade the community’s wastewater treatment facility and collection system.
The planned improvements include upgrades to 10 out of 13 authority pump stations with new pumps and controls. The gravity sewer main along Orchard Street in Pine Grove Borough will be replaced, as well as two manholes, 330 feet of gravity sewer, and existing laterals. Cleanouts will be installed at the right of way line. These changes are intended to improve the reliability of the system and prevent untreated sewage from entering Swatara Creek.
“This investment will strengthen Pine Grove’s wastewater infrastructure, protect public health and support long-term environmental sustainability,” said Stehr. “Upgrading aging pump stations and sewer lines is essential to maintaining reliable service for local residents while safeguarding the Swatara Creek from potential contamination.”
“This highly competitive funding will protect public health,” Argall said. “Projects like this one, while critical to building a healthy community, can be very expensive. I’m grateful PENNVEST recognizes how important supporting this project is.”
PENNVEST provides funding for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania. The authority’s financing comes from federal sources, state bond issues, and revenue generated by the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee under Act 13 of 2012.
