Senator Dave Argall (R-29) voted in favor of the 2025-26 Pennsylvania state budget, which was passed by both the Senate and House with significant support and signed into law. The final budget reduces spending by nearly $1.4 billion compared to the proposal put forward earlier this year by Governor Josh Shapiro.
Argall described the bipartisan agreement as beneficial for taxpayers. “This bipartisan budget is a win for Pennsylvania taxpayers,” said Argall. “It protects local families from crushing new energy taxes and makes critical investments in local students from pre-school to grad school.”
A key provision in the approved budget is the removal of a regulation that would have required Pennsylvania to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Argall commented on this aspect, stating, “Eliminating the governor’s RGGI energy tax is a major victory for Pennsylvania families and job creators. This harmful regulation would have added more than a billion dollars in new electricity costs while threatening power plant closures, job losses and even rolling blackouts. Preventing Pennsylvania from staying in RGGI protects our consumers, workers and energy independence.”
The newly adopted budget reflects changes from Governor Shapiro’s original plan, focusing on reducing expenditures and eliminating proposed regulations that were met with opposition.
