Rep. Doyle Heffley and Sen. Dave Argall announced on Apr. 8 that the Palmerton Area Library will receive more than $600,000 to address water damage repairs and restoration of its building, which is over a century old.
The funding aims to help maintain the historic library so it can continue serving residents of all ages in the community.
Heffley said, “I’m pleased to have helped secure this significant amount of funding. Libraries provide essential services to residents of all ages. The Palmerton Area Library is historic, and this funding will ensure the building gets the repairs it needs to remain safe and accessible for everyone who relies on it.”
Argall added, “As the son of a librarian, I was pleased to help secure this highly competitive funding for the Palmerton Library. This investment will breathe new life into a historic building and provide valuable opportunities for residents for years to come.”
The grant comes from the Keystone Grant for Public Library Facilities program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office of Commonwealth Libraries. The program supports projects that improve library infrastructure such as accessibility upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, essential building systems work, renovations, and expansions.
With these funds allocated specifically for infrastructure repair and restoration at Palmerton Area Library, local officials say they hope this investment ensures continued access to resources in a safe environment.
