Over $580,000 has been allocated to community development projects in Luzerne County through the Luzerne County Local Share Account. This announcement was made by Representative Jamie Walsh and Senator Dave Argall.
Walsh expressed the importance of these investments for the community’s future. “Making investments like these is critical for current and future generations of Luzerne countians,” he stated. He also highlighted the collaboration with Argall to secure funding for specific projects, such as Freeland Borough’s YMCA and the Engine House Project in White Haven Borough. These initiatives aim to offer resources like childcare, a multi-purpose library, and a visitor’s center.
Argall emphasized the competitive nature of this funding and its potential benefits. “This highly competitive funding will expand access to childcare for working families and improve local public buildings,” he said. He acknowledged the partnership with Walsh, municipal leaders, and community volunteers who contributed to securing this financial support.
The Local Share Account generates funds through casino gaming revenues, which are then redistributed to enhance communities in nearby areas. The Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency established by the General Assembly, is responsible for administering these economic growth investments across Pennsylvania.
