The July edition of the television program hosted by Senator Dave Argall visited Penn State Schuylkill. The event offered high school students from the 29th district an opportunity to experience the roles of state senators and representatives through Argall’s “Senator for a Day” student government seminar.
“As the son of two public school teachers and in my years as a very part-time college instructor, I’ve learned that some of the best education takes place outside of the classroom,” stated Argall. “Senator for a Day is designed to bring lessons about history and our government to life. I was very impressed with the students’ knowledge and ability to carefully review and discuss some of the most complex topics now under consideration in Harrisburg.”
Participants engaged in activities such as serving on a Senate committee, debating issues, and learning about legislative processes. They reviewed various pieces of legislation including voter ID requirements, drug testing for government assistance recipients, and bans on handheld devices in motor vehicles.
The seminar also included discussions on how local partnerships helped prevent the closure of Penn State Schuylkill and Penn State Hazleton earlier this year.
Argall encourages local educators and students interested in future seminars or internships to contact his office. This edition of the Argall Report will be broadcasted locally and is available online at www.senatorargall.com/argallreport.
