State grants exceeding $1.6 million have been allocated to several communities across Carbon County for a range of local projects, according to an announcement made today. Representative Doyle Heffley and Senator David Argall collaborated with area officials to secure the funding.
“These investments reflect our commitment to strengthening the backbone of our communities,” said Heffley. “Whether it’s supporting our volunteer fire companies, upgrading critical infrastructure, or preserving local landmarks, this funding will help ensure a safer, stronger and more vibrant Carbon County for years to come.”
“Towns and neighborhoods in all corners of Carbon County will benefit from this funding,” added Argall.
The grants were awarded as follows: Bowmanstown Borough received $100,000 on behalf of the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company for the construction of a new firehouse; Kline Banks McAdoo Regional Authority was given $105,000 to replace old equipment at its wastewater treatment plant in Banks Township; Lansford Coaldale Joint Water Authority obtained $480,000 for water line replacement along Abbott Street in Lansford; Lower Towamensing Township secured $50,000 on behalf of the Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company for community signage; Palmerton Borough was granted $468,000 on behalf of the Palmerton Library for masonry repairs and window replacements; Parryville Borough received $300,000 toward building a municipal and emergency services facility.
The Statewide Local Share Account program provided these funds using gaming revenue aimed at fostering community and economic development projects.
In addition to these awards, Towamensing Township was granted $150,000 through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for upgrades at its Little League Complex. The Greenways program is designed to develop and improve public parks, greenways, trails, and other recreational facilities.
