Reps. Tim Twardzik, Jamie Barton, Joanne Stehr, and Dane Watro have announced a grant of $33,485 for the restoration of the historic Yuengling Mansion in Schuylkill County. The funding comes from the Keystone Historic Preservation Construction Grant program.
The allocated funds will be used to restore the mansion’s original 1913 wrought iron fence and replace copper gutters that have caused water damage. Other repairs include restoring damaged woodwork and the original carport.
“These restoration efforts will preserve the historic integrity of the Yuengling Mansion and prevent further deterioration,” said Twardzik. He emphasized the importance of protecting Schuylkill County’s heritage for future generations.
Stehr highlighted that preserving landmarks like Yuengling Mansion is crucial for honoring local heritage. “This investment will help maintain a symbol of our region’s rich history and ensure it can be appreciated for generations to come,” she stated.
Barton noted that this grant is significant for arts in Schuylkill County, calling it “a big win.” He mentioned that restoring the mansion is both welcome and necessary due to its role as a cultural hub.
Watro added that “the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts uses the Yuengling Mansion as a cultural center,” stressing that this funding will help preserve its integrity and continue its mission as Pottsville’s creative community heart.
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission administers this grant program, supporting rehabilitation projects listed or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
