Rep. Tim Twardzik and Sen. Dave Argall have announced that Butler Township in the 123rd District will receive $20,280 through the Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) Transportation Enhancement Grant Program. The funds are designated for the purchase of four “Radar Sign Safety in a Box” kits aimed at reducing excessive speeds and minimizing motor vehicle accidents on Fairgrounds Road and Fountain Street.
“Investing in traffic safety is critical to protecting our communities,” said Twardzik. “These radar signs will serve as an important tool in encouraging safe driving habits and preventing accidents in Butler Township.”
Sen. Argall highlighted the financial challenges local governments face when maintaining infrastructure: “Upkeeping our roads and bridges is an important piece of building strong communities, yet these projects can be very expensive for local governments. I’m grateful this highly competitive state funding will help make Butler Township safer for motorists.”
The ARLE Funding Program, administered by PennDOT since its establishment in 2010, provides grants based on revenue from fines collected through Automated Red Light Enforcement Systems and Automated Speed Enforcement Systems. This round of grants will distribute nearly $20.4 million to support 31 safety projects across 25 municipalities.
Grant applications are accepted annually during June.
